Ok please do not take me wrong, I am in love with technology and anything that comes close to technology, in actual fact I feel that technology is my life! what was I doing before it came upon us and how was I living without in those early years of mine?  I had lived and experienced everything in all the stages of life. No tv, then tv, No cinemas, then cinemas, No radio then radio, No computers, then computers, No internet then internet, sent letters by post and sent telegrams, sent gifts by parcels though post, then through courier, and suddenly there is an explosion of social media sites and that is when our life became dependent on technology and not on ourselves; so what happened to me yesterday is what I would call “phone withdrawal, as in drug withdrawal.  Previously, our phone will never die on us, the battery will live for three four days, now we can hardly stay without our powerbank or couple of powerbanks to continuously charge our phones, if you are out the whole day, and you happen to forget your powerbank, then you are going to have a phone withdrawal.

According to GoogleDrug withdrawal is the group of symptoms that occur upon the abrupt discontinuation or decrease in intake of medications or recreational drugs. … Withdrawal symptoms from opiates include anxiety, sweating, vomiting, and diarrhea. Alcohol withdrawal symptoms include irritability, fatigue, shaking, sweating, and nausea.

The past two days I was attending a very important conference on education (GESF), on the first day I had charged both my phones fully, and made sure to take my powerbank with me. The day went well and I was happy.  Yesterday however, I had forgotten to take the little gadget, I tried to charge my phones in the cubical provided, but that would mean that I would miss the sessions.  You cannot believe what happened to me, I was depressed, I was irritable, I was sweating, and almost was going to faint which was pretty abnormal, I wasn’t feeling well to the extent that I had to leave to go home instead of staying to the most important event of the whole conference, which is the announcement of the winner of the Global teachers prize.  on hindsight, I should have enjoyed the conference and listened intensely as I can later on share any important element from the conference pages, as I know that all the videos are uploaded live

I can only blame the phone manufacturers as they should make sure to buy the battery technology of the good old Nokia, and use it on the iPhones or the other brands that fail us when we need them most.

I must also confess here that we have become obsessed with sharing everything that we do on the social media, is this a must? will our friends live if we don’t tell them what we are doing in every minute of our day? shouldn’t we have the old way back when we meet on a cup of coffee and just talk about our day while enjoying ourselves instead of satisfying the thousands of the friends that we had never met?

A food for thought.
