Let me tell you something, if one is not happy at the place of work, he or she might as well quit there and then.  Life is so complicated as it is, we do not need to add another complication which is unhappiness. If one chooses the wrong study major, he or she will not like to work in any environment, unless of course he or she change course and do something else if they are allowed.  To ensure that you are happy at work, then please choose your major carefully, that way you would have crafted your path and would guarantee to yourself that you will at least be happy if you are doing what you like.

Most of the work happiness research have focused on the illnesses that occur to the person due to unhappiness in the work place.  In my mind, illness is only one side of the coin, the other side is the effect unhappiness at work has on the family, friends and life in general.  If you are a person that loves to work with people and suddenly your job makes you work at a computer in your own room, how would that make you feel? If you are on the other hand, an introvert and choose a major in marketing where you have to convince others of a product or a service, how can you achieve your numbers?  If you prefer to work with machines and they let you work with people, how would that affect your day?

Hence the research that I did on the happiness at work, it proved my hypothesis that one needs to be at the right place in the right time doing the right thing to bring happiness to his or her life. Here are some of the replies that I had received from people who have enjoyed their lives.

Meeting people and having a friendly environment was of utmost importance, Challenge and changing people’s lives comes second in the list, followed by flexible working hours, having the freedom to choose the hours of work.

Then people added empowerment, job security and peace at work. Job location and creativity was also on top of people’s minds.  Making a difference and understanding life/work balance were also factors of great work environment.  Synergy, working together like parts of the clock and doing what we like were important factors that the research subjects have touched upon. The last thing people mentioned and the thing that scored the least is “Money”, not surprising results as if all is good, money will fall into place.

Be happy at work, as you are worth it
